Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) include a wide range of conditions that vary in type and severity. Although there are clear diagnostic criteria for IDD, it can present differently in each individual.
Each person's presentation is unique, and no single sign confirms a diagnosis. The signs of IDD also vary depending on the specific condition the individual has. You can learn more about the four levels of IDD severity here.
In general, the more severe the disability, the earlier signs are likely to appear. Individuals with IDD typically have both below-average intellectual functioning (often measured by IQ) and limitations in adaptive or developmental skills.
