Servicing NYC and Long Island
While a Direct Support Professional (DSP) may seem similar to a traditional caregiver, the role is different in both purpose and approach.
Caregivers often focus on providing hands-on assistance and meeting immediate daily needs. DSPs, by contrast, are trained professionals who help individuals with disabilities develop practical skills, make informed choices, and move toward greater independence.
Instead of stepping in and taking over, a DSP works alongside the individual — offering guidance, structure, and encouragement so they can participate more fully at home, in school, at work, and in the community. The goal is increased confidence and lasting growth.
