Servicing NYC and Long Island
When approving your child for respite care, the OPWDD department will review your child’s individual needs, strengths, and challenges to determine how many support hours you’re eligible to receive.
Once approved, these hours can be used for assistance during times that your child is not receiving another service – including daycare, ABA therapy, an after-school program, or another OPWDD waiver service.
If you’d like to request additional respite hours, you would ask your CCO care manager to submit an RSA form requesting the increase. The request must include a detailed justification letter explaining why the additional hours are needed. Families typically review and request adjustments to their respite hours during their annual meeting with their care manager.
