Take the video tour -->Speak to a services specialist 718.400.8496
Are you trying to get services for your child  and feeling lost in red tape? Unsure where to turn or what comes next?

Now, you can get clarity through a personalized video explainer tour that walks you through each step of the OPWDD application process.

You shouldn't have to fight so hard to get support.

You know your child needs help, but figuring out what's available and how to access it can be overwhelming.

You keep hitting up against

  • Endless paperwork.
  • Confusing eligibility rules.
  • Contradicting information.
  • Dead ends.

And you're doing all this while caring for someone with daily challenges.

You may have started the process and gotten stuck. Struggled to get clear answers about what comes next. Been told your child needs one thing — only to learn it's something else. Or prepared documentation, only to be met with a denial.

That's because the process is complex, and every factor can change the requirements.

You can get clear answers from people who know and have guided thousands of families along the same path.

Our service specialists personally help families understand which OPWDD services they may qualify for, what to expect, and which steps to take next — so they can move forward with confidence.

Now you can access their expertise in Hamaspik's free OPWDD video tour, where we've broken down the requirements and every stage of the process into clear, bite-sized videos.

The tour answers the questions families ask most:

  • How to apply for OPWDD?
  • Am I eligible for OPWDD services?
  • Do I need to have Medicaid to get OPWDD?
  • How long does it take to get OPWDD services?
  • What if I’m denied OPWDD eligibility or services?

And more.

Throughout, we’ll ask you just a few quick questions so we can provide you with information and support that’s accurate and tailored to your circumstances so you can know exactly what to expect.

What is OPWDD and what services can you get?

The Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is the New York State agency dedicated to coordinating and funding services for people with developmental disabilities.

OPWDD services are based on individual need and eligibility and can include:

  • 1:1 services like respite designed to give caregivers a break
  • Comhab and vocational services focused on developing life skills and independent living
  • IBS (intervention behavior services) to address behavioral challenges
  • Or self-direction, a more flexible way of accessing services
