Hamaspik is a non-profit human services agency that provides completely customized,person-centered services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughMedicaid.

OPWDD is the name commonly used to refer to New York State’s Medicaid-funded program that services New Yorkers diagnosed with developmental disabilities. OPWDD provides services through nonprofit agencies, like Hamaspik.

OPWDD provides waiver services to individuals with a variety of conditions, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, and other neurological impairments. Waiver means that Medicaid waives the income eligibility that’s usually required for coverage. Instead, the individual’s disability determines eligibility for OPWDD. Waiver services include (but are not limited to) community habilitation, respite, reimbursement, and fiscal intermediary.

Waiver services are available to disabled individuals over the age of 3. New York’s Early Intervention (EI) program is available to children ages 0-3.
